Our free file of the month for August is The Reveal — A Flexible Progress bar by marcfolio.
“First impressions are key in today’s design savvy world, and often the first thing we see when entering or view a flash file is a boring progress bar or preloader. Feeling like an opportunity was being lost to better communicate and engage the viewer I created this set of preloaders. A simple solution paired with your imagination creates endless potential.”

Snipplr Link Now in Social Profile
Snipplr is a massive repository of code snippets recently bought by Envato. We’ve just added it to your social profile in ActiveDen and other Envato marketplaces.
In each user’s profile there’s a panel (pictured above) where you can promote your social profiles, including Twitter, Facebook and FreelanceSwitch. We just added Snipplr.
So if you’re a Snipplr user, go to My Account > My Settings > Social Network Links and add your username.

Clients from Hell
Me: “OK, let’s start by opening your web browser.”
Client: “Web browser? Oh, you mean Internet Explorer?”
Me: “Sure, that’ll work. Now you’re going to click on the web address window at the top of your browser and type in…”
Client: “Wait, wait, slow down. What do you mean by click?”
Me: “… like, click with your mouse button.”
Client: “Mouse button? What? Man, this is really confusing.”
“Apple news followers will recall a report last week that Apple has recently purchased Poly9, a Quebec based company that makes a Google Earth-like app. If you missed this you can get updated quickly with this AppleInsider post.
“Why would we here at FITC care about this acquisition, other than that it seems Apple is looking for ways to severe ties with Google’s mapping technology? Well after looking at one of Poly9’s javascript api demos and then doing a little view source sleuthing you’ll see that Poly9’s app is in fact largely based on a swf – one with a Flex loader nonetheless.”
This week’s featured item is Photographr - AS3 Template with XML and Tumblr CMS by iamdok.
“This template’s news and photo section take their content from the above Tumblog. As you can see the template filters the content into two seperate modules, by post type. This can be controlled by xml settings, but could just as easily have taken contentfrom seperate Tumblogs for each module .”
